Hi, I'm Tez. I'm a singer and guitarist in Sydney. For me, it's always been about a great song and a real connection with people. I love playing music that feels honest, whether it's a classic I grew up with, a favourite Aussie anthem, or one of my own tunes. I provide live acoustic music for all sorts of occasions – the corner of your local pub, a special event, a wedding, or a relaxed Sunday session. What sets Tez Burgan’s live show apart is its raw authenticity. This isn't about flashy production; it's about a genuine connection forged through the power of great songwriting. One moment, he’s leading a heartfelt singalong to an Aussie classic like "Flame Trees"; the next, he's holding the room silent with a powerful, stripped-back rendition of The Verve's "The Drugs Don't Work." His thoughtfully curated sets pay tribute to the great songwriters, weaving together beloved hits from iconic artists like The Beatles, INXS, Damien Rice, and Paul Kelly. Seamlessly woven alongside these classics is his own compelling original material, standing strong with the songs that inspired him. The result is an atmosphere that feels real, engaging, and memorable.
Biography
My Story Music has pretty much been my whole life. I started out playing in bands as a teenager back in Whyalla and got my first real taste of the industry playing bass in a band called The Urban Guerillas. We worked hard, played a lot of gigs, and even put out a couple of singles. Moving to Sydney in the 80s was a big step. I joined a band called The Cuckoos, and the next few years were a blur of touring, recording, and opening for bands I really looked up to, like Cold Chisel and the Divinyls. Those years on the road taught me so much about performance and what it takes to connect with a room. I’ve always been writing songs, and for a while, I got really into creating for theatre. I had this big idea for a musical called THE ORACLE, which was a huge learning curve but ended up being staged at the Belvoir Street Theatre. It was a different world, but it taught me a lot about storytelling through music. After being in what feels like a dozen different bands over the years – rock bands, folk duos, even a bluegrass group – I realised what I missed most was the simple, honest connection of one voice, one guitar, and a room full of people. So that’s what I’m focusing on now. I play songs that mean something to me – some are mine, some are classics that feel like old friends. It’s a heartfelt and pretty vulnerable thing to do, but it’s real. My hope is that when I play, you feel that too.
What kind of music?
